The material used for spur gears is typically 20CrMnTi. Unlike helical gears, spur gears with an involute tooth form have thick roots, which prevents wear from the teeth. These gears are easily made with conventional production tools. The involute shape is an ideal choice for small-scale production and is one of the most popular types of spur gears.
